What to Expect!

At Canvascanada.ca we do not have the time to review the dimensions of each file before they are invoiced to make sure that they conform to the image ratio of the print size ordered (eg 8x10 photo print from a 2:3 ratio image). In order to match photo print sizes with the page price that is billed we require users to select either Cropping or Best Fit from the menus on the order form. By selecting the proper option we will have a better sense of what the desired outcome is. All "photo" prints will have an extra white border over and above the "photo" print size ordered. The white border will be a minimum of 1/2" but can vary depending on the overall size of the photo print.

Cropping option

All photos with the "cropping" option selected will be cropped to fit the exact image size ordered. Cropping is not automatically centred and will be done by eye offering our view on the best cropping to fit the photo print requested. All "custom" photo print sizes are treated as "cropping" by default, therefore we recommend double checking your pixel ratio when ordering any custom size prints.

Best fit option

All photo prints ordered with the "best fit" option will not be cropped in any direction. Typically we will print the image with the largest dimension matching the print size requested, on some occasions we will print the image slightly larger for the same price as billed in order to achieve an image that has no cropping but reflects the rough overall size of the photo print ordered. (eg. 7"x11" image instead of a 6.4"x10" when 8x10 photo print ordered with best fit). Images that are significantly out of proportion with the photo print ordered should be ordered as a "custom page" to get the best sized image for your price. Note that custom sizing does not carry a premium and is calculated exactly like our standard sizes.

Gallery Stretched Canvas

Canvas orders with gallery stretching as an option have special cropping requirements but the same rules apply. If cropping is selected the finished stretched size will be the size ordered which will include a minimum of 1" cropping that is wrapped on all sides. If best fit is selected we will size the image so that there is only 1" of cropping wrapped on the sides and that the overall size reflects the amount paid for the ordered canvas (eg narrower but longer than ordered).

It is very important when selecting gallery stretching to make sure that there is at least some room for the 1" of cropping required in the photo uploaded. It is also typically best to order as "best fit" to minimize overall cropping (make sure to use image ratio to select the most accurate price from the list - most newer digital cameras shoot in 2:3 ratio)

What size is my file?
